About Us

American Diabetes Therapy Centers

American Diabetes Therapy Centers was formed on February 11, 2010 as a division of Deepal Cemo Medical Solutions, LLC.  Deepal Wannakuwatte has been providing medical supplies to Native American health facilities and became aware of the extreme need to help diabetic Native Americans who experience a rate of diabetes of over 2.5 times the national average.  American Diabetes Therapy Centers has an exclusive sublicense of Cellular Activation Therapy to focus on providing the treatment to Native Americans in North America.  American Diabetes Therapy Centers plans to rapidly expand the number of therapy centers nationwide in areas accessible to Native Americans.  Non-Native American can also receive treatment at our centers.  Because only licensed providers practice medicine, American Diabetes Therapy Centers is a clinical provider to licensed professionals who provide the treatment portion of the services. 

Mission

American Diabetes Therapy Centers existence is to “Stop the Suffering” of Chronic Diabetes  and move the patient to a state of wellness and feeling they can “Enjoy Life with Diabetes”.

Sammy F. Cemo, Principal

Sammy Cemo has been a successful Real Estate Developer in the Sacramento Region for over forty years: he has developed over 4,000 acres of office, technical and industrial business parks as well as 3,000,000 square feet of Office, Flex and Retail buildings.  Sammy’s development business, Cemo Commercial, Inc, focuses on attracting businesses to the Sacramento area and is responsible for bringing many significant companies to the region.

Along with Cemo Commercial, Inc. Sammy is very active in three other businesses not related to real estate.  These Companies are Investment Retrievers, Inc., Cemo Deepal Holdings, LLC and Deepal Cemo Medical Solutions, LLC.  American Diabetes Therapy Centers is a division of Deepal Cemo Medical Solutions, LLC.

Sammy is very dedicated to supporting causes in the Sacramento Region.  Over the past 45 years Sammy has donated several million dollars to causes such as the expansion of Mercy Hospital in Folsom, the building of a new addition to the Crocker Art Museum, Jesuit High School, The Wellspring Foundation, River Oaks, Lupus Foundation and Alzheimer’s Foundation.

 

Deepal Wannkuwatte, Principal 

Deepal Wannakuwatte is the owner and CEO of International Manufacturing Group, Inc (RelyAid) a wholesale and retail medical and dental supply business he started with his wife, Betsy, in 1988.  The family-owned and operated company is based in Sacramento, California.  Deepal, born in Sri Lanka, has deep family roots that date back over 100 years to the rubber tree plantations in his native country.  He has built his successful medical supply business through his deep contacts with Asian glove factories and manufactures, and his expert knowledge of the process of efficiently bringing containers of latex gloves to the United States.  Over the years Deepal has developed impressive business relationships with:   the U.S. Customs Department, the Food and Drug Administration, Native American Health facilities and various U.S. manufactures.  Deepal is involved in the daily operations and management of the company.

Through his various Native American business contacts Deepal became aware of the need to help the Native American’s with their growing problem of extreme diabetes.  In 2009 Deepal and his Partner Sammy F. Cemo founded Deepal Cemo Medical Solutions, the parent company of American Diabetes Therapy Centers.

Deepal is a former Davis Cup and National Lawn Tennis Champion of Sri Lanka.  He moved to the United States after receiving a collegiate tennis scholarship and is now a United States citizen.


David Zweck, Vice President 

David Zweck has been involved in commercial real estate brokerage and development in the Sacramento Region for over 30 years.  Prior to the real estate endeavors David was a successful manufacturer’s representative and started two successful manufacturing companies.  This was preceded by nine years of Industrial Engineering experience in the steel industry.  David has Bachelor of Science Degrees in Accounting and Business Administration.

 

Dr. Kevin Buckman M.D., Medical Director

Dr. Kevin Buckman M.D. is an advisor and the Medical Director of American Diabetes Therapy Centers' Roseville, CA treatment facility under CLIA.  He also practices medicine as an individual physician, as American Diabetes Treatment Centers itself does not practice medicine.  Kevin completed his medical training at USC and continued internship and residency training at USC in Internal Medicine.  He has been treating hospitalized and outpatient diabetic patients for over 25 years.  He has served as Medical Director in various hospitals and institutions for over 15 years.  He has served on the Attending Teaching Staff for the training of medical interns and residents, became board certified in Emergency Medicine and a Fellow of the American Board of Emergency Medicine in 1990.  He has written over ten patents for new medical and environmental technologies. 

 

Dr. Robert H. Nelson M.D., Medical Advisor

Dr. Robert H. Nelson M.D.  is an advisor to American Diabetes Therapy Centers.  Dr. Nelson is a concierge physician and founder of Concierge Physicians of California.  He received his undergraduate degree from John Hopkins University and medical degree from George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences.  Dr. Nelson served 10 years in the Army where he reached the rank of Major.  He was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, providing medical care to American forces, Coalition forces and local Afghanistan civilians.  Dr. Nelson currently limits his practice to a set number of patients which allows him to provide the utmost care for his patients.


Michele Quattrin, Executive Coordinator

Michele Quattrin  has experience working in management for a professional sports franchise handling the day to day operations.  Her prior experience also includes marketing and public relations where she served as the media liaison for the Sacramento Police Department as well as television reporting for the CBS affiliate in Sacramento.   Michele has a Bachelors of Arts in Business and Merchandising from California State University, Fresno.

 

Melanie Kunz, NP

Melanie Kunz, NP  is the Director of Training and Clinical Oversight and is the person responsible for training personnel and overseeing proper clinical care. Melanie has more clinical experience in CAT protocol development than any other practitioner.  She currently is also in charge of four new study protocols quantifying the dramatic outcomes from CAT.  Melanie has been a Nurse Practitioner since 1996 (San Jose State), with accompanying undergraduate degrees, including women’s health.  She was in charge of high-risk obstetrics and Perinatal Medicine at the Medical Group of Northern Nevada, where she personally managed hundreds of diabetic patients.  She has a broad background in new product development, including managing a division of CareLink and forming MedTriage Inc.  Melanie is the manager of MedEdCo, the medical training and oversight company for the Cellular Activity Therapy licensor.

 

Gregory F. Gilbert

Gregory F. Gilbert  is founder and principal owner of Cellular Activation Therapy Clinics, LLC (CATC) and Bionica, Inc.  CATC is the owner of the patented protocols for Cellular Activation Therapy and is also the owner of the patents for the Bionica pump used in the treatment. Greg serves as the liaison to the Medical and Insurance communities. Greg is the remaining partner of the law firm of Evans, Jackson & Kennedy (Sacramento) where Justice Hugh Evans joined the 3rd District Court of Appeal, and Justice Anthony M. Kennedy is the 104th United States Supreme Court Justice (sitting). Mr. Gilbert has focused on representing the medical and pharmaceutical industry. Greg was awarded Volunteer of the Year, American Diabetes Association (Northern California). He has a BS in Business & Accounting from Grand Canyon University and a Juris Doctorate from University of the Pacific.
